The internal energy of high density hydrogen plasmas in the temperature range T = 10000 ... 50000 K is calculated by two different analytic approximation schemes - the method of an effective ion-ion interaction potential and the Padé approach within the chemical picture - and are compared with the direct path integral Monte Carlo results. A reasonable agreement between the results obtained from the three independent calculations is found and the reasons for still existing differences are investigated. Interesting high density phenomena such as the onset of ion crystallization are discussed.
